Lu Merritt
Senior Director of Development for Intercollegiate Athletics

Lu is the Senior Director of Development for Intercollegiate Athletics. He serves in a leadership role for the Virginia Tech Athletic Fund (Hokie Club) and in addition, his responsibilities include identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding major gift prospects and donors to the Hokie Club. A letterwinner in tennis for Virginia Tech in 1966-68, Lu served as Captain of the men's team in 1967. Lu graduated from Virginia Tech with a degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Management in 1968. He served in the US Army including a tour of duty in Vietnam and upon returning, began a successful 23 year banking career. In 1994, Lu accepted the role as Director of Development for Intercollegiate Athletics with the Virginia Tech Athletic Fund. Since returning to Blacksburg, Lu has overseen tremendous fundraising growth both in numbers of donors to the Hokie Club and dollars raised. In addition, he has led fundraising efforts for several capital projects, including the South End Zone Expansion and West Side Expansion of Lane Stadium, the Hahn Hurst Basketball Practice Center, the football locker room facility, as well as Athletics' role in the Campaign for Virginia Tech: Invent the Future. A native of Roanoke, Virginia Lu lives in Blacksburg with his wife Brynda. They have one grown daughter.

Lu serves as a liaison for Roanoke Valley and Myrtle Beach.
John Moody
Senior Assistant to the Director

John is the Senior Assistant to the Director. His responsibilities include indentifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding major gift prospects and donors to the Hokie Club. A four year letterwinner (1952-54 and 1956-58) John's Tech football career was interrupted by a two-year stint in the United States Army, during which he served as an enlisted man in Austria and Italy. John graduated with a degree in Business Administration in 1958 and went to work as a teacher and coach at Norview High School in Norfolk, Virginia. After a stint in the business world, John returned to Virginia Tech in 1972 as the Assistant Director of Tech's Student Aid Association, beginning a new career that would establish a benchmark for athletic fundraising at Tech over a span of nearly four decades. John was recognized by Virginia Tech in the fall of 2011 as he was inducted into the Virginia Tech Sports Hall of Fame. A native of Glen Allen, Virginia, John lives in Blacksburg with his wife Kay. They have three grown children.
David Everett
Director of Major Gifts for Intercollegiate Athletics

David is the Director of Major Gifts for Intercollegiate Athletics. His responsibilities include identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding major gift prospects and donors to the Hokie Club. David began his career in 1988 with the former Virginia Tech Student Aid Association, serving as Assistant Director of Field Services and later as Athletic Development Manager. From 1996-1999 David served as Director of Development for Virginia Tech's Pamplin College of Business where he led a successful $30 million campaign for the college during the university's last comprehensive campaign. In the summer of 1999, he moved back to the Virginia Tech Athletic Fund in his current role. David is a 1988 graduate of Virginia Tech with a degree in Finance. He was a football letterman from 1985-1987 and was the starting wingback on the 1986 Peach Bowl Championship team. A native of Emporia, Virginia, David lives in Blacksburg with his wife, Lynn, and two daughters, Kat and Jane.

David serves as a liaison for the Richmond Hokie Club.
Terry Bolt
Director of Development for Special Gifts and the Athletic Annual Fund

Terry is the Director of Development for Special Gifts and the Athletic Annual Fund. Her responsibilities include indentifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding major gift prospects and donors to the Athletic Fund as well as overseeing the planning and direction of the Annual Fund. Terry began her career in 1994 after serving as a Hokie Representative and Hokie Club President for the Blacksburg Hokie Club. Terry was the H. M. "Mac" McEver Award winner for the most active members as a Hokie Representative in 1989. A native of Bath County, Terry is a 1982 graduate of Virginia Tech with a degree in Marketing Management.

Terry serves as a liaison for the areas of: Blacksburg, Tri Cities, Colonial, Peninsula, Tidewater, Western Tidewater, Franklin/Southampton, Eastern Shore and Outer Banks.
Brian Thornburg
Associate Director of Development for Intercollegiate Athletics

Brian is an Associate Director of Development for Intercollegiate Athletics. His responsibilities include indentifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding major gift prospects and donors to the Hokie Club. A native of Icard, North Carolina, Brian received his undergraduate degree in Journalism and Mass Communication from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill along with a Minor in Public Policy Analysis in 1999. He received a Masters of Education in Sport Management from the University of Georgia in 2001.

Scott Davis

Scott is an Associate Director of Development for Intercollegiate Athletics. His responsibilities include indentifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding major gift prospects and donors to the Hokie Club. He received his undergraduate degree of Marketing Management from Virginia Tech in 1990 and a Master's in Sports Management in 1993 from Virginia Tech. Scott was a letterwinner in men's basketball in 1987-90 and also served as an Assistant men's basketball coach for the Hokies from 1995-99. A native of Warrensville, North Carolina, Scott lives in Blacksburg with his wife Catie, and two sons, Sam and Austin.
